It’s easy to have clean, clear, supple skin and still avoid harsh chemical skin care additives. With a few simple natural skin care recipes, you can create your own personalized line of skin products, and save money too.
Makeup Remover
To remove makeup easily, you can use olive oil or coconut oil by applying it to your face and massaging your makeup off, using a soft microfiber cloth. This does a fantastic job at gently removing all traces of makeup, even mascara!
Most people find that this method won’t make their skin any more oily, but if you have very oily skin and are reluctant to try an oil makeup remover, you can just use the facial cleansing method above, and that should take care of your makeup. This method won’t add any oil to your face, nor will it strip your skin of its own natural oils.
Facial Cleanser
For a natural facial cleanser, use an organic liquid Castille soap, which you can find online or in most health food stores. Simply put a few drops on a wet wash cloth and gently cleanse your face with it. Follow with a cold water rinse.
This cleanser will keep your face clean, your skin clear, and is safe for you and for the environment. The large bottle of Castille soap is also useful for other beauty recipes or for household cleaning, and will last you a very long time.
Moisturizer
Pure unrefined coconut oil is the perfect moisturizer for most people. With its lauric acid content, coconut oil supports collagen production and is absorbed easily into your skin. If you have dry skin or are hoping to promote a more plump, youthful appearance, you can’t do better than coconut oil.
The best coconut oil to use on skin is raw (never heated) organic cold pressed coconut oil. This will give you the best results, and will also heal most skin irritations or other skin issues.
You might be hesitant to try coconut oil if you are prone to acne or oily skin, but it has wonderful antibacterial properties, and will help eliminate the bacteria on the skin that is the real cause with acne breakouts.
Skin Exfoliant
A sugar and oil scrub will gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and smooth. Simply mix 1 part oil with 1 part sugar in a container, and keep it near your sink so you can grab it whenever your skin needs a helping hand.
For the oil, you can choose coconut oil, jojoba oil, or argan oil. You can use either white or brown sugar, but you should try to use organic, as that would be a more natural alternative.
Any of these natural skin care recipes can be boosted even more by adding a few drops of essential oil that are nourishing and healing to the skin. Frankincense, lavender, geranium, tea tree, neroli, lemon, elemi, helichrysum and sandalwood are just a few of the essential oils that may help heal your skin and give it a more youthful appearance.
By switching from chemical-filled skin care products to your own easy homemade products, you can have the skin you’ve always wanted, without the harmful ingredients that you don’t.
