Five Sensitive Skin Care Tips To Keep Your Skin Looking Great

By Susan Sells

If your skin reacts every time that you experiment with a new product or rub your skin too hard, you most likely have sensitive skin that needs special treatment to look its best. Sensitive skin tends to be more permeable than normal, which makes it more susceptible to environmental exposure and the loss of moisture. Use these five sensitive skin care tips to get the best results from your daily beauty regimen.

Five Sensitive Skin Care TipsTest Before Trying A New Product

Whenever you decide to try a new skin care product, do a trial run in an inconspicuous part of your body, such as behind your ear, before you apply it in places where an adverse skin reaction will be obvious. Give it a day to see if any redness, swelling, or other signs of skin irritation results. If your skin shows favorable responses, then chances are that you’re safe to begin using it on other areas of your skin.

Understanding Labels

Don’t implicitly trust products that claim to be hypoallergenic. If you’d assume that those products are always your best option, you’d be mistaken. Currently, there are no federal regulations governing the use of the label, and the products don’t always turn out to be the best for using with sensitive skin. If you choose to try a hypoallergenic product, follow the same advice as for using any other new product.

Stay Moisturized

Because sensitive skin is particularly vulnerable to exposure to the elements, your skin will benefit by generous moisturizing. Dry skin can lead to a myriad of unsightly reactions to the elements, so plan to moisturize when you wake up and again when you go to sleep, at a minimum. Doing so will help to protect your skin from exposure to environmental factors, such as wind and pollution, and it’ll seal your skin to prevent water loss.

Stay Away From Chemicals In Your Cosmetics

Use care when choosing your cosmetics. Having sensitive skin shouldn’t mean that you have to go without using makeup, but you do have to take care to use products that won’t adversely affect the health of your skin. Look for products that are free of artificial dyes and preservatives. Avoid liquid eyeliner because they often contain latex, which may cause sensitive skin to become irritated. Thoroughly cleaning your brushes after use will also help to avoid skin flare-ups.

Use Sunscreen

Sensitive skin is particularly susceptible to the effects of sun exposure. Even limited exposure can aggravate the delicate tissue of the skin, so be sure to wear protective clothing and use SPF 30 and higher sunscreen to protect any exposed skin regardless of the time of year. Sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide work best. Wear sunglasses to help prevent wrinkles from forming around the eyes.

Combine these sensitive skin care tips with a healthy diet, and you’ll provide it with protection from the outside, and nourishment from the inside. You can restore your skin’s natural radiance by taking these simple precautionary steps to protect it. They will ensure that you get the best possible results from your beauty regimen.
